WELCOME TO DAY 7 OF WIMBLEDON 2021: After the last-ever 'Middle Sunday' of Wimbledon, it's time for the last-ever 'Manic Monday' in London. The first 6 days of tennis on the grass courts of the All England Club were packed with action, a few injuries, and a few upsets. The seventh day of play sees defending men's singles champion Novak Djokovic, eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer, women's world No.1 Ash Barty, and young sensations in Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek in action. If you were enthralled by the first week, expect more from the second. (WIMBLEDON COVERAGE)
1) Play begins
The first players to step out on court include Swiatek and Sabalenka. Djokovic plays No. 17 Cristian Garin of Chile and Federer faces No. 23 Lorenzo Sonego of Italy, who were a combined 0-5 at the All England Club until this year. Gauff plays former Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber.
Women's No. 1 Ash Barty plays French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova on No. 1 Court.
2) Berrettini thumps Ivashka
Matteo Berrettini stepped up his bid to join a select band of players to complete the Queen's Club-Wimbledon double in the same year with a fluent 6-4 6-3 6-1 fourth-round win over All England Club debutant Ilya Ivashka on Monday.
3) Swiatek stunned, history for Jabeur
Ons Jabeur became the first Arab woman to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals by beating former French Open champion Iga Swiatek 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. The Tunisian converted all seven break points she created and served out the match at love with an ace.
4) Sabalenka through to quarters
Second seed Aryna Sabalenka battled past a determined Elena Rybakina 6-3 4-6 6-3 in the Wimbledon fourth round on Monday to reach the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career.
5) And for the first time, Ash Barty...
Australia's Ash Barty was made to work but after overcoming a loose patch in the match, she defeated 7-5 6-3 win over French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova to advance to the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time.
6) Novak Djokovic through to quarters
Novak Djokovic's stellar run continues as he progressed to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon with a 6-2,6-4,6-2 thrashing of Cristian Garin at Centre Court. He will be playing his 50th Grand Slam last-8 match next.
7) Khachanov bags 5-set thriller
Sebastian Korda will have to wait a bit longer for a chance to add his first major title to the family collection. The American lost a marathon fifth set that featured 13 breaks of serve in his fourth-round match at Wimbledon. Karen Khachanov of Russia won the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 to reach the quarterfinals.
8) Fucsovics upsets Rublev
The unseeded, 29-year-old Fucsovics became the first Hungarian to reach the Wimbledon men's quarterfinals since 1948 by upsetting No. 5 Andrey Rublev 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
9) Muchova, Pliskova also bag wins
Plíšková, seeded eighth, has now reached the final eight at every major after hitting 10 aces and eliminating Liudmila Samsonova 6-2, 6-3.
No. 19 Karolína Muchová made Wimbledon's quarters for the second year in a row by beating No. 30 Paula Badosa 7-6 (6), 6-4.
10) Guaff eliminated by Kerber
Teenager Coco Gauff's Wimbledon hopes were dashed by Germany's former champion Angelique Kerber as she went down 6-4 6-4 in a Centre Court battle of the generations on Monday.
11) Shapovalov into first Wimbledon quarters
Canadian Denis Shapovalov put in a near-flawless show to defeat eighth seed Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain 6-1 6-3 7-5 on Monday to book a maiden Wimbledon quarter-final spot.
12) Here we go...again...Federer's match halted
Play at Wimbledon has been halted because of rain.
Roger Federer was playing Lorenzo Sonego on Centre Court with their fourth-round match level 5-5 in the first set when play was stopped. On the other hand, Alexander Zverev was in the fifth set against Felix Auger-Aliassime on No. 1 Court after the fourth-seeded German came from two sets down.
13) And the Swiss Maestro is back... but under closed roof
Play on Wimbledon's Centre Court has restarted with the roof closed after a rain delay of about 20 minutes.
Lorenzo Sonego double-faulted on the first point when play resumed to hand Roger Federer a break and a 6-5 lead in the first set. The Swiss Maestro eventually held his serve to take the first set 7-5
