Philadelphia Union star midfielder Jamiro Monteiro misses match, is in transfer talks - Brotherly Game

Philadelphia Union star midfielder Jamiro Monteiro could be on his way out less than two weeks away from one of the biggest matches in team history: the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League semifinal in Mexico City.

Monteiro was a surprise omission from the 18 in the Union’s match against the Chicago Fire.

Head coach Jim Curtin addressed his absence post-game.

“Jamiro is in transfer talks right now,” Curtin said. “That’s all I can say about the matter.”

Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Jonathan Tannenwald reported that one of the reasons for Monteiro, a father of two, seeking a transfer could be family related.

A Cape Verde international, Monteiro originally came to the Union on loan in 2019 and returned after the Union paid their largest transfer fee ever for a player in 2020.

He has 9 goals and 19 assists in 63 games over three seasons with the blue and gold.
