MLS will have its first-ever Thanksgiving Day match on Fox, the league revealed as part of its 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs schedule announcement on Thursday.
Following MLS Decision Day on Nov. 7, the MLS Cup Playoffs — 12 single-elimination matches played across two weeks — will kick off on Nov. 20 and culminate in the 2021 MLS Cup on Dec. 11. The championship will air at 3 p.m. ET on ABC.
Round one of the playoffs will consist of six single-elimination games that will feature six teams from each of the Western and Eastern Conferences (12 teams total). Seeds two through seven in each conference will compete in round one while the No. 1 seeds earn a first-round bye.
The conference semifinals will consist of four single-elimination games, where the No. 1 seed in each conference will host the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 match from the first round. The winner of No. 3 vs. 6 will play the winner of No. 2 vs. 7, with the higher-seeded team hosting. After that, the higher-seeded team in each conference will host the lower-seeded team in the conference finals.
The MLS postseason will also feature four consecutive weekends of broadcasts on ABC. The network will cover all four rounds of postseason action, providing "over-the-air network coverage of every round, every weekend."
The New England Revolution (16-4-4) sit atop the MLS standings as of Thursday, with Seattle Sounders FC (12-6-4) and Colorado Rapids (12-5-4) rounding out the top three.
