WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Big E, Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley clash in triple threat main event - CBSSports.com

With Extreme Rules less than a week away, WWE took a big swing during Monday night's episode of Raw, bringing universal champion Roman Reigns over from SmackDown for what turned out to be two matches. Reigns would not only wrestle twice in the night, he would also pick up two pinfall victories.

First, Reigns teamed with The Usos to take on WWE champion Big E and his New Day teammates. After interference from Bobby Lashley allowed Reigns to pick up the win, Reigns would face off with Big E and Lashley in a triple threat main event, again emerging with his hand raised in a huge night for "The Tribal Chief."

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Roman Reigns and Big E clash twice in one night

Roman Reigns & The Usos def. The New Day via pinfall after Reigns speared Kofi Kingston. After a show-opening promo by Big E and New Day, thanking the fans for their support, the six-man tag match kicked off the show. After some good action, Bobby Lashley ran in and speared Big E at ringside before driving Kofi Kingston into the ring post and attacking Jimmy Uso. The referee watched this happen but did not call for the bell, allowing Reigns to hit a spear on Xavier Woods to score the pin. After the match, Lashley speared Reigns and drove Big E through the ringside barricade.

Roman Reigns def. Big E and Bobby Lashley via pinfall after a spear on Lashley. Lashley and Big E both went to WWE officials and demanded a triple threat match later in the night, with Paul Heyman joining the chorus until the match was booked as the main event. After a grueling battle, Big E seemed to have the match won after hitting Reigns with a Big Ending, but Lashley made the save and drove Big E through the commentary table. Reigns countered a Lashley spear into a Superman punch for his own near fall. Big E broke a pin after Lashley hit Reigns with a spear. Big E again hit a Big Ending on Reigns but Lashley broke the pin with several chair shots -- legal under triple threat rules -- only to turn into a Reigns spear for the pinfall.

It was extremely strange to have a six-man tag match have Lashley run in and attack with the referee just watching and not calling for the bell, but WWE is notoriously inconsistent with enforcing rules during matches. That nagging issue aside, both the six-man tag and the main event were packed with really good action. Having Big E lose two matches on his home show after winning the championship is a little odd, though. As long as this leads to Reigns vs. Big E at Survivor Series, all will be forgiven. Grade: A-

What else happened on WWE Raw?

  • Doudrop def. Eva Marie via pinfall with a seated crossbody.
  • Randy Orton def. AJ Styles via pinfall after hitting an RKO. Omos was banned from ringside for grabbing Orton during the match. Before leaving the ringside area, Omos attacked Riddle.
  • Shayna Baszler def. Nia Jax via pinfall with a Kirifuda Clutch. After the match, Baszler carried out a brutal attack on Jaz, first stomping on Jax's arm as it was stuck in the handle of the ring step and then stomping on the same arm as it was bent.
  • Humberto Carrillo & Angel Garza def. Mansoor & Mustafa Ali via pinfall after a stomp to the face of Ali.
  • Women's Tag Team Championship -- Nikki A.S.H. & Rhea Ripley def. Tamina & Natalya (c) via pinfall to win the titles when Nikki pinned Natalya with a schoolboy pin.
  • Charlotte Flair appeared on Alexa Bliss' Playground before the two women brawled. Bliss repeatedly asked who Flair would be without championships before Flair ripped the head off the doll Bliss gave her last week after the two began brawling. Bliss eventually ran Flair off before Flair could attack Lilly.
  • Jeff Hardy def. Sheamus via pinfall to earn a spot in the United States championship match at Extreme Rules. Hardy now joins Sheamus and champion Priest, who brawled with each other after the match.

Adblock test (Why?)
