Four Teams Tied Following Opening Day of Match Play - Big12Sports.com

After the first day of the 2021 Big 12 Men’s Golf Match Play Tournament, Oklahoma and Texas Tech lead in Pool A with six points each while Oklahoma State and Texas are tied for first in Pool B with six points apiece. The competition is being played at the par-71, 7,007-yard The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas.

In Pool A, No. 1 seed Oklahoma defeated No. 8 seed West Virginia in the morning 4-1-1 and No. 9 seed Kansas State 4-1-1 in the afternoon. No. 4 seed Texas Tech beat No. 5 seed Kansas 4-2-0 in the early round and No. 8 seed West Virginia 5-1-0 in the afternoon. Kansas, Kansas State and West Virginia all have zero points after one day.

In Pool B, No. 2 seed Oklahoma State beat No. 7 seed Baylor 6-0-0 this morning and took down No. 10 seed Iowa State by the same score this afternoon. No. 3 seed Texas defeated No. 6 seed TCU 4-2-0 and No. 7 seed Baylor 5-1-0 to keep up with the Cowboys. Baylor, Iowa State and TCU all have zero points after the first day.

Pool play will continue Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. CT.

During the pool play portion, each team will play four matches. Teams will get three points for a win, one point for a draw, and zero points for a loss. At the conclusion of pool play, each team will be ranked 1-5 within their pool based on the amount of points accrued.

During the championship round of day 3, the championship match will feature the team with the highest point total from Pool A with the team with the highest point total from Pool B. The third-place match will be between the teams with the second-highest point totals from their respective pools. Each team will participate during the championship afternoon.
