Lady Lions Drop Opening Match of Homestand - Southeastern Lions Athletics

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team dropped a Southland Conference match Thursday, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, to conference-leading Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the University Center.
 
SLU (8-16, 6-6 SLC), which falls five games behind the first-place Islanders (15-9, 11-1 SLC) in the Southland standings, dropped the opening set despite recording 15 kills.
 
In the second set, the Lady Lions weathered a red-hot attack from A&M-Corpus Christi (.417) to even up the contest at one set apiece.
 
Over the course of the final two sets, the Islander defense shut down the Southeastern attack as the Lady Lions failed to post a hitting percentage above .100 in either set.
 
Cicily Hidalgo, the Southland leader in kills, recorded her 12th double-double of the season. The freshman from Opelousas, Louisiana posted 14 kills, tied for the most by any player in the match, and 12 digs.
 
Karlee Wilkerson, a senior from Springfield, Louisiana, contributed 10 kills for the Lady Lions and Kibi Huggins, a freshman from Zachary, Louisiana, added seven more.
 
Ariana Hebert, a junior from Lafayette, Louisiana, dished out 21 assists and Gracie Duplechein, a freshman from St. Amant, Louisiana, handed out an additional 18 for SLU.
 
Crispin Adams, a junior from Brookshire, Texas, had a hand in a match-high four total blocks. Calli Collins (18) and Jolie Hidalgo (10) both recorded double-figure dig totals for the Lady Lions.
