At an age when most guys fall over putting on a pair of pants, Hugo Mbongue is scoring goals for Toronto FC.

The 17-year-old scored in the 89th minute on Saturday afternoon to salvage a 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City in TFC’s final pre-season game of the 2022 schedule. The Reds finished the pre-season campaign with three wins, two losses and a draw under new head coach Bob Bradley and open the Major League Soccer regular season next Sat. Feb.26 at FC Dallas. The first regular season home game for TFC is Sat. March 5 at BMO Field against the New York Red Bulls.
Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the 73rd minute at the St. David’s Performance Center in Austin, Texas, a game that was not live-streamed. Mbongue tied the game one minute before the end of regulation time. The Toronto native appeared in 10 games for TFC II last season and five for TFC II, where he scored four goals. Mbongue was a member of the Canadian U15 squad for the 2019 Concacaf championship. In Canada’s opening match, he scored a hat trick in a 7-0 victory over El Salvador.

REDS UNVEIL ‘COMMUNITY KIT’
TFC unveiled the club 2022 “Community Kit” on Saturday. According to the Reds website, the new kit “stands at the intersection of lifestyle and sport”. (Which I believe is somewhere in East York). The jersey is described as “a white and silver split design uniting club and culture; city and community. Authentic to our city, a collection of neighborhoods where cultures meet and personality defines individuality.” (As opposed to personality defining collectivity). “Fashioned for nights of all kinds, at BMO Field or those spent away from it.” (Most of my shirts are fashioned for sitting in the home office 22 hours a day).
