NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will play their penultimate match of the regular season when they face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers secured the 3-seed in the Southland Tournament after winning back-to-back matches last week against Nicholls and Southeastern. The Tournament will begin on Apr. 22 at the University Tennis Center.
Lina Hohnhold has put together a fantastic season with a 13-1 mark in singles. Hohnhold has won five consecutive matches in straight sets entering Wednesday and is 8-0 at flight two. Hohnhold also has a 10-4 mark in doubles this season.
In doubles, the Privateers have played eight different pairings this season. As a unit, the Privateers are 33-16 in doubles matches. Ank Vullings and Estelle Vanthier have eight wins while paired together this season. Vanthier is also 3-0 while teamed up with Mar Gendra.
The Privateers and Golden Eagles have been evenly matched over the years as the two sides have split the last 10 meetings.
Southern Miss has put forth a strong season with a 13-3 mark. The Golden Eagles finished their regular season home record at 8-0. In their most recent match, they shut out Alabama State 4-0 on Sunday, Apr. 10.
