Nigma Galaxy has announced that its star player, Amer "Miracle-" Al-Barkawi, will miss the start of the new Dota Pro Circuit season and will be replaced by the team coach Roman "rmN-" Paley for the first matches of the competition.
The announcement that Miracle- will miss the start of the season has come as a big surprise, with many expecting the Nigma Galaxy roster, which has remained unchanged since last season, to be one of the top teams in the European region. However, with their star player out of action and the team coach having to step in, that could be a tough task.
“@NigmaMiracle is on a short break and our coach @rmN_dota will be standing in for the first few series of the season,” said Nigma Galaxy in a statement on Twitter.
No other information about Miracle’s break has been revealed, meaning there is no information on how long it may last or the reason for it. If this is to be a long absence then it could be a difficult season for the team, but the scheduling of the DPC could provide some consolation for Nigma Galaxy with long breaks between matches.
Nigma Galaxy is due to play Team Tickles in its first match of the DPC season tomorrow. Prior to this news most would have favoured Nigma Galaxy to take the win, but now it will be very interesting to see how the roster does with rmN- standing in. Of course, rmN- is still a very capable player, having had a long career as a player himself, even competing for the likes of NAVI, before transitioning into a coaching role.
With the statement suggesting that Miracle will miss multiple matches, it is likely he will also miss the match against Tundra on December 7. After that Nigma Galaxy have a full week before the next match on December 14 against OG, and then the final match of 2021 against Team Secret on December 18.
Miracle has long been one of the best Dota 2 players in the world, bursting into the competitive scene on OG, before joining Team Liquid and winning The International alongside them. The core of that Liquid roster then became Nigma Galaxy and still play together, finding a decent amount of success but failing to qualify for The International 10 earlier this year.
Of course, the hope is that Miracle is fine and will be able to return to competitive play as soon as possible.
